So it’s our first night in Poland and shenanigans have already started… We met the welsh team at the Berlin airport waiting for our bus, then shared the 3.5hr bus ride to Poland. Awesome bunch of dudes, it’s not quite a team of Ryland’s (have to be from the east coast of australia to really get that one) but they are pretty cool.
So we walked from our hotel into “town” which at first was quite a depressing walk, everything looked pretty… Well… Not that flash… But eventually we found the river, where a bunch of restaurants were, and it was pretty nice actually.
We worked out 3.5 zloty (pretty sure it is spelt different, but anyways) is 1 Aussie dollar. Beer works out to about $1-$1.50 Aussie dollars. We went to dinner, huge meal, tones of beer and vodka, and it cost us about 60 zloty each. So that works out to about $17 Aussie dollar for a good meal, with about 2-3 shots of vodka and about 3-4 beers. This country is awesome!
So we ate and drank with the welsh team, and on the walk back towards our hotel, things got a little worrying. We stopped parsed a small shop, like a 7-11 I guess, but it sold beer. So big cans of Heineken (500ml) for about $1aud… We bought some beer and nibbles and kept walking. We then may have jay walked across a big intersection while drinking. Now kids, we do not condone this… As about half the group cross the road, a cop car mounts the curb. They were ninja, we didn’t see them… They got out of the car and most of us, well at least I did, crapped our dacks… They didn’t speak English, we didn’t speak polish, it was a real bad mix. I was at the front, and the only one in the first group with an open beer. They were pointing, I was saying “sorry, we are Australian, English?” to which they kept speaking polish (fair enough really, we are in Poland) eventually we worked out it was my beer, I said I would put it in the bin, and we kept saying sorry. They eventually said we couldn’t cross where we did (in English). I said sorry, eventually they just let us go. This is after the polish guy etc rep who picked us up told us to be careful, and not get shot…
We then continued on our merry way, left the welsh at their hotel and eventually found ours. Awesome night, could have ended differently with those cops, with us drinking in public and jay walking… Funny, both those are laws in Australia, not sure why we thought it was ok in Poland…
